I'm running 2.6.4 on my laptop.
I haven't noticed that it is faster than 2.4.25.
(Admittedly I'm insensitive to such things.)
But is there some particular setting that was suggested in .config
to get this supposed increase in speed?
I didn't see anything relevant, though I didn't look carefully.
Actually, what strikes me most strongly
is how little difference the CPU speed makes.
I have a 200MHz Pentium II which my grand-daughter uses
and on the rare occasions when I use it
I'm always surprised how useable it is.
I suspect CPU speed is just a manufacturer's gimmick
to persuade people they need a new machine.
