I noticed the exact same thing getting the mdk10C release until I set up
port forwarding (properly - I had it set up for UDP for some reason) and
got decent dl rates.
You need to be able to listen on ports 6881 onwards (a port is req'd for
each new torrent). I have opened 6881-6889. Some people also recommend
opening ports 6969 and 7070.
