OK, I'm a bit thick on mail servers. The ISP does offer an smtp push option,
is this what you mean by proper smtp?

Yes, of course that's the sane way to go. But my point was that very many
people have ended up with all the email for their company delivered to one
mailbox, and that sucks large hairy rocks. But it is amazingly difficult to
persaude people of how bad that is, because just like Windows, it mostly
works.
