This is the culprit. Basically, it parses the To: and Cc: headers in the
message, and tries to deliver the message to any addresses it find. It
_should_ have a concept of a local domain, and only deliver to addresses
at that domain. However, if misconfigured it will attempt delivery to
any address it finds. It can actually be used as an open relay, by
sending a mail with a valid envelope recipient for the domain, which the
SMTP server accepts, but a completely different address in the To:
header, which the POP connector software happily delivers to.
I've tried explaining this to the said morons, but in my experience it
won't do any good. The usual situation is the client has no internal IT
support, and won't pay for decent IT support, and doesn't understand any
of the preceding paragraph :(
