Although I do indeed lean towards the "Don't do this" side of the
discussion, I'm amazed at how close it can come to being OK, if you
use (for example) fetchmail's multidrop mode. I once had that set up
for a client site, processing an entire firm's mail over ISDN from a
dual-homed FreeBSD box. With a Squid cache added on top of that for
Web/ftp browsing, they didn't need to upgrade to real connectivity for
years.
