[ILUG] {Spam Email?} Internal Modem on Fedora Core 1

[ILUG] {Spam Email?} Internal Modem on Fedora Core 1

WinModems are not full hardware modems. They rely on using the host CPU
to do some of their work - Basically the Windows Device driver is doing
some of the work that a full hardware modem would do.

Unfortunately, winmodems are usually, though not always compatible with
Linux.

If in doubt, and external modem connected via the serial port is the
most compatible solution.

Cheers,
Dermot

Hi

I have been trying to get an Internet USR 56K voice modem installed on a
Dell box running
Fedora Core 1.

The modem appers using lspci, but i need to map it to /dev/modem, so I
can run efax.

bash: lspci:
00:00.0 Host bridge: ServerWorks GCNB-LE Host Bridge (rev 32) 00:00.1
Host bridge: ServerWorks GCNB-LE Host Bridge 00:02.0 Ethernet
controller: Intel Corp. 82540EM Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 02)
00:04.0 Communication controller: 5610 56K FaxModem USR 56k Internal
WinModem 00:0e.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Rage XL
(rev 27) 00:0f.0 Host bridge: ServerWorks CSB5 South Bridge (rev 93)
00:0f.1 IDE interface: ServerWorks CSB5 IDE Controller (rev 93) 00:0f.2
USB Controller: ServerWorks OSB4/CSB5 OHCI USB Controller (rev 05)
00:0f.3 ISA bridge: ServerWorks GCLE Host Bridge 00:10.0 Host bridge:
ServerWorks: Unknown device 0101 (rev 05) 00:10.2 Host bridge:
ServerWorks: Unknown device 0101 (rev 05) 01:04.0 SCSI storage
controller: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic 53c1030 PCI-X Fusion-MPT Dual
Ultra320 SCSI (rev 07)

I have searched for a solution but with no success.

Any help greatly appreciated!

TIA

John
