Seems to me like a funny place to put the list() construct.

Assuming data is actually in your result set (which it seems to be),
try something like this instead:

while($row = mysql_fetch_row($result)) 
{
    list($topic_id, $forum_id, $topic_last_post_id, $topic_title, 
            $topic_poster, $topic_views, $topic_replied,
                $topic_moved_id) = $row;
    echo "topic id: $topic_id";

    // etc
}
