laptops preinstalled with linux are usually dearer than similar desktops or
laptops that are preinstalled with windows.

why can't these guys just offer a "linux friendly" computer (i.e. a
computer whose hardware components are known to work in linux with no
problems at all) and let the buyer install their own choice of linux on it?
