Also worth remembering that Microsoft will sell an OS for $100. This
amount accrues to the sales figures. Then they will give a marketing
discount of $99. This accrues to the marketing expenses. Net result
is that the OS costs Dell $1 and earns Microsoft $1, but it makes
sales look high and doesn't introduce a general expectation that
operating systems should be cheap.
