Hello all,
I sent a message requesting help to the Linux.ie web site earlier and
the cathaoirleach Proinsias Breathnach suggested I send a message to this
group. So I am resending the message:
I am writing to ask for some help in setting up Linux on computers in a
community centre on Aranmore Island, Co. Donegal. We have received a number
of donated computers (around 10) as well as three new machines from Dell and
would like to set them up to provide internet access, general office
application use and for training. We have done some preliminary research
and would like to install SUSE due to its relative ease of use and
installation. I was wondering if there were any of your members in the
Donegal area who would be interested in giving up an afternoon to help us
get a network and server set up. We currently are getting the computers
installed and connected to our ADSL connection (512/128 kbs). Any help
would be greatly appreciated.

Secretary
Just a wee bit more background; the machines that were donated are 233 Mhz
Pentium II machines with between 64-96 MB RAM and a 2 GB hard Disk. We may
have to add more memory as an installation of Red Hat 9 was very sluggish on
the 64 MB machines. We have a 802.11g Belkin Wireless/4 port router (for an
WiFi hotspot) and a Cisco 24 port switch. All the machines have a 100 Mbs
network card and we are currently networking them together. We would like
to install a file/print server/backup and perhaps an open source internet
café management software (Open Kiosk?) on one of the new Dells (I have
managed a FTP network install of SUSE 9.0 on a new Dell machine but was
unable to install the same OS on the older machines due to an unspecified
error: ³An error has occurred²). Thanks in anticipation of your help.
