It's no harm to remind people every now and again to stay on
topic. Whether sarcasm is the best medium to get that message
across or not is more open to debate but I suppose that one
mans sarcasm is another mans humour.
It degrades the utility of the list when the S/N ratio goes to
hell and we're all busy people who could all do with more S and
less N.
There are a couple of ways of looking at it. One is that reminders
about staying on-topic, invariably, result in even more off-topic
posting. Another is that, that is what the delete key was invented
for.
