Congrats. 

Some security advice hmm there is so much one could do in this arena. My
suggestions would include some of the following that you do not use the
auto login feature as it means anyone turning on the machine can assume
your identity, keep your accounts to your self, stay current with your
patches.

Have a read of some security faqs on line, and subscribe to a security
mailing list for your distribution, and maybe bugtraq and or secunia.
