TBH, I can see his point.
Listening to these on linux is only possible by infringing various MS
patents and licenses, after all, and MS are moving their multimedia tech
towards a more DRM-friendly model, in which running under emulation,
patching, or otherwise using components that are not part of a Trusted
Computing Base when playing the video/audio are rejected by the DRM model.
MS have already intimidated one Linux video software developer regarding
infringement of one of their patents.
As a result, it's pretty unlikely that Linux support for MS video formats
will be available permanently...
