OK, working solution: .sawfishrc contains:
> (require 'sawmill-defaults)
>> (system "xmodmap ~/.xmodmaprc")
> (system "/usr/X11R6/bin/xterm &")
I suppose I could even ship out the last line to .xsession and use
(system "bash ~/.xsession") to get an even more "normal" setup.
TIMTOWTDI again, in other words.
