When? What letters on this issue constitute jumping down someone's throat?

There are some comments to the effect that the userland should have
been specified, some offerring a solution, and some offerring an
incorrect solution based on the incorrect assumption that the userland
was Linux.

Those in the last category probably spent some time coming to a
solution, then entered it into the list. That all this work was wasted
would naturally provoke a reaction of sorts.

I don't want to provoke a navel-gaze, but there is more than just a Be
Nice to Noobs issue at stake. If such voluntary community based
support is 'abused', then the community dies.
