I've been using the standard command to copy, cut and paste in vim for
ages. Recently found I needed multiple buffers for editing a certain
file and was aware of the multiple clipboard features of vim but never
learnt it so investigated. Don't know why I didn't prod this handy
feature previously!
To copy/cut the desired text into a specific buffer simply prepend "x
to your command of choice (double quote followed by x, where x is the
single letter name for your buffer). Then to recall that buffer prepend
the same again before your paste command.
i.e. <Select some text>
"ay (copies currently selected text to 'a' buffer)
<Select some other text>
"by (copies currently selected text to 'b' buffer)
<Move cursor to where you want to put 'a'>
"ap (pastes the contents of buffer 'a' after the cursor)
Happy editing,
