Hmm, it doesnt seem /that/ drastic to me. Essentially, all you have
to do is upgrade to 2.6 in FC2 /first/ really ;), install FC3
initscripts, udev and deps, start udev then install the FC3 2.6
kernel (and updated mkinitrd) - hey presto ;).
(and the FC3 2.6 kernel and mkinitrd /do/ install on FC2, because
I actually did that quite recently - Arjan stopped making kernel
updates available on his people.redhat.com homepage.)
NB: I appear already to have converted a debian sarge box to udev.
Someone recently commented (either here or on IRC) about Debian
hal/udev problems, so i apt-get installed udev for the fun of it and
pretty much nothing happened that i noticed, but i've double checked
and indeed udevd is running and /dev is dynamic. So unless RH really
screwed up...
NB2: Ensuring that your mounts in fstab are device independent
(either by way of LABELed mounts or meta-devices that do
auto-discovery, like md or lvm) is highly reccomended, has been for a
long time, and a good way to ensure things like udev upgrades are
fairly painless.
