The ASUS site doesn't list it as compatible, so I'm not going to 
take the chance.  Thing is that I'm not even 100% sure the fault
is with the CPU, so I'm thinking that EUR 30 is about the max I'm 
going to spend on it.

Yup - I'm being really cheap :-)
