Well for starters the disk I have are from Dabs and are labelled Datasafe.
apparently the company is Datawrite and they are Ritek disks. So that puts
them squarely in the crap category using the parameters outlined below!

That's useful information. Do you know any manufacturers that use
such blanks (basically so that one can make a good decision when
buying)? Or do they tend to chop and change between them?
