It's not really THAT surprising.  People change their minds all the
time, based on additional knowledge on a topic.  I would have a lot less
respect for someone who stuck to his/her guns out of pride.

The Fianna Fáil TD's in Cork North Central have been receiving an
education on the merits of Open Source recently.  Maybe some of this
filtered upwards?
