A friend of mine finally got so tired of Virii and popups and blue screens,
she wanted a Virii-free system. So I wiped her box and installed Mandrake
10.1 community edition along with the linuxant driver for her softmodem and
set her up on Eircom flatrate.
Her modem works, but I keep getting ppd timeouts when connecting. If I log in
manually via the terminal in the modem settings, it logs in every time. So,
I'm wondering how to extend the timeout setting for pppd? Nothing in the nice
GUI config screens seems to do it?
I did notice that the flatrate server doesn't seem to follow the usual login
format? When I connect, I just get a connected reply, but no request for
login or password? If I type them in, it connects, though. Could this be why
pppd is timing out?
I've not had much experience in setting these things up. On my home system,
I've a Smoothwall box to take care of all those pesky details and it just
works (-;
