Mandrake 10.x using kernel 2.6.x introduced the use of IPv6 by default.
This causes a few issues on IPv4 nets - take a look at tcpdump output.
 From what I can gather it tried to resolve the domain with v6, times out
and then trues v4. You can disable IPv6 by adding the following line to
/etc/modprobe.conf:

alias net-pf-10 off

Everything should be back to normal after a reboot - I had problems with
simply using rmmod ipv6 in this case, but you might have better luck.
