[ILUG] Newbie seeks help interpreting /var/log messages

Hi,
I am running Suse 9.1 professional at home.
I was surprised when I checked out some of my log files (in part prompted by
other posts on this formum) to find large compressed files (13MB
uncompressed) with the following lines:

Oct 12 04:22:50 dhcppc1 kernel: hdc: packet command error: error=0x54
Oct 12 04:22:51 dhcppc1 kernel: hdc: packet command error: status=0x51
{ DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
Oct 12 04:22:51 dhcppc1 kernel: hdc: packet command error: error=0x54
Oct 12 04:22:52 dhcppc1 kernel: hdc: packet command error: status=0x51
{ DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
Oct 12 04:22:52 dhcppc1 kernel: hdc: packet command error: error=0x54
Oct 12 04:22:53 dhcppc1 kernel: hdc: packet command error: status=0x51
{ DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
Oct 12 04:22:53 dhcppc1 kernel: hdc: packet command error: error=0x54

My question: has this to do with some form of kernel panic? Or is it something
to do with some of the things Suse 9.1 loads up which slows down the system
eg suseplugger
