Who says MS have access to the file format specifications? For that
to be true, specifications would actually need to exist. I have a dim
memory of Caolan McNamara telling on this list that when he tried to
get specs out of MS, beyond the limited info MS had on technet, that
MS didnt have any. Indeed didnt MS eventually take (with his
permission) the notes and specifications Caolan had built-up in
reverse engineering their formats to write Wv (the library which OO
uses) and publish those as specifications for their own formats! (is
my very dim and probably quite inaccurate memory).
Ie the best docs on MS's formats are those created due to open-source
(Caolan)!
