Could be just you (tm). Seriously, i am using USB on a variety of
systems with several distributions and i don't encounter major
problems apart from the odd disconnect every once in a while. I guess
you have tried several ports. Next move would be with/without
ACPI/APIC and if you cannot disable APIC, check its version level, i
got it working on a weird motherboard by selecting 1.4 in the BIOS (as
opposed to 1.1).
