[ILUG] DHCP problem - cant connect

[ILUG] DHCP problem - cant connect

Still cant get connect. Any help would be much appreciated, i've gaone as far as i can with this myself.

Ok so i've made some progress,

running dual boot freeBSD & winXP

Ive figured out how most of this works. I have configured my ethernet card for for DCHP and pointed it at my router (set IPv4 Gateway to 192.168.1.254) The Host name is correct, but i've left the domain empty (although i've tried it with the domain set to eircom.net)

i can log into my router using my browser, i can ping the router, and i can also ping the other machine which is attatched to the USB port on my NETOPIA modem. But i cant connect to the web.

I have also added my host name and the ip 192.168.1.3 to the /etc/hosts file which has stopped the error messages i was getting when logging in.

i have a realtek 8129/8139 PCI ethernet card

ifconfig returns the following for rl0 -my ethernet card:

flags=8843<UP, BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST>mtu 1500
options=8<VLAN_MTU>
inet6 fe80::a00:46fffec0:5677%rl0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x2
inet 192.168.1.3 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 255.255.255.255
ether 08:0046:c0:56:77
media: Ethernet autoselec (100baseTX <full-duplex>)
status:active

Any ideas?

Is the Broadcast field right? should it not be 192.168.1.255 ?? could it still be some conflict with my host name (even though im sure it's correct)??

thanks for taking the time, i know i rambled a bit.
