Thanks for your responses. After boot lsmod shows :

sg 28513 0
scsi_mod 105360 1 sg
...lots of others deleted....
I added "st" with /sbin/modprobe, but no joy. I have watched to see
what modules get loaded after a "kudzu -p" and it seems the st module
get loaded.
I have tried removing all modules (st,sg,scso_mod) and just adding the
various combinations. No joy.
AAhhhhhhhhhh....i think i will hunt down another card.
