[ILUG] Instant messenger servers recommendations

I'm looking to setup an internal company IM server.
I've be looking at the open source solutions, but
would be interested to know if anyone has any
recommendations for one that they have found to be
quite good?

I'm currently looking at "jabber"
(http://www.jabber.org/software/servers.php) which
seems to be a decent package, but is proving to be a
bit of pain getting it to compile. 

Any recommendaations would be appreciated.
