Try the 110 meg boot disc available from here:

http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/

Theres an install guide there too, i think it uses 2.4.27, with an
option for 2.6.7, and it has hardware probing so you shouldnt have any
problems.

Wrt mirrors, whichever one is closer/faster for you, you should be
presented with a nice list of mirrors to choose from during the install,
if you want to see that again after the install run apt-setup, theres
also a utility to test mirror speeds, apt-spy.
