Not the case. I've been using Mail.app since 10.2 and it certainly
does support nested folders. You have to be careful to match your
"IMAP prefix" with the convention of your server (ie: are subfolders
created under INBOX., or beside INBOX.), but that's the case for all
IMAP clients.
