[ILUG] Network Problem [probably OT]

[ILUG] Network Problem [probably OT]

This is more confusing!

Smoothwall site says that the internet sharing in Mandrake 9.2 is
"confusing" With this being corrected in Mandy 10. What to do is set up
the connection then delete smoothwall and reinstall the rpm version from
thier site. When I did that got an invalid iproute error and smoothwall
wouldnt install I then tried to install iproute from another rpm but it
said iproute was already installed!

So in a flash of despiration I upgraded to Mandy 10,0 which I had
gathering dust but the network install is even more confusing :-( It
has an option for both a Lan connection and a cble connection, Using the
cable option (maybe too obvious) I select Automatic IP it then asks me
if I want to "Assign host name from DHCP address so I checked that then
it asks for Dns server which i dont think is neededif I leave that blank
it just cycles back round to that screen.

When I google I find very few hits for NTL and Mandrake but one guy said
to copy settings from 9.2 to 10 but of course that is now deleted

Has anyone set up a cable modem on Mandrake 10 and if so any pointers or
is there a manual way of setting the internet connection up to avoid the
wizard?

D
