Thanks Donncha. I must take a look at this. I was discussing this at  
the weekend with Ronan Cunniffe who replaced amanda with such an rsync  
setup. I still use amanda for dailies but will use this setup for  
archival backup. However, there is one disadvantage - I have amanda  
compressing the backups using gzip, and compression is done on the  
clients. So I get good disk utilisation, and minimal backup server  
load. Is there any way of getting rsync to do compression, I wonder? I  
guess you'd have to some something like a DoubleSpace style disk driver  
for Linux. I'm sure I've heard of such a thing but I'm not sure how  
much I'd trust it.
