I agree. Running ubuntu/amd64 here, the box is a shuttle SK83G (chipset:
VIA K8M800 + VT8237). I am very happy with how linux and it get on.
Even sysresccd (www.sysresccd.org) which uses a 2.4 kernel handles
everything perfectly. It's all squeezably good, all open source and free.
