If your just starting with Ubunutu, handy links are....

http://www.ubuntuforums.org/ - The HOWTO's & guides are very handy.
http://www.ubuntuguide.org/ - Handy tips on setting apps, the ubuntu way.

If your staying with warty, ub-backports is handy. But I've never had a
problems with hoary.

And don't forget to add multiverse & univserse repositorys. After adding
them, i didn't have to install anything from source. Happy days.
