  | Hellllp....
  | my machine has started to crash a lot latel,
  | after a bit of searching i noticed that both "free" & xosview
  | show that it's not using any swap memory.  [ ... ]

 what, please, is the connection between crashes
 and not swapping?

  | I have been doing a little tweeking lately using YAST

 was the machine crashing _before_ this tweaking?

  | but cant think what i could do to stop it using swap memory.

 eh?  do you want to start swapping (odd request);
 stop swapping (yer not, so why brother?);
 or show that yer swap is set up correctly (sane, but we're
  now back to the original question: what has swap to do with
  your crashes?)?

 swap (or the lack thereof) _could_ have something to do with
 yer crashes. but you have not presented any evidence that
 this is a plausible suspect, much less the known cause.

 are there any "interesting" messages in the log(s)?
 what changed between went the machine didn't crash and now,
 when it does?
 how often does it crash?
 what is the machine doing when it crashes?

cheers!
