I would imagine that Ruby shares some of the same dependancys as Perl & Python,
things like zlib etc, Ruby actually takes quite a bit from Perl (as
far as I know), I dont really know any Perl but Ive looked at some
code & some things look similar.

So my guess is these were just general developement dependancys.

I never really had any of these problems as I always install all the
developer packages I get with a distro, Ive found it to cause less
hastle(when building from source).

What you think of Ruby anyway? Nice isn't it.
