[ILUG] Printer recommendations

[ILUG] Printer recommendations

Niall O Broin niall at linux.ie

The kids' inkjet being very unwell, and my old laser being about the
same, I'm in printer shopping mode. I'm looking for a low end colour
laser. Current front runner is the Dell 3100cn (because the cheaper
3000cn is Windows only) which is very reasonably priced, and is
currently on a 20% off promotion, so I can get it with 3 year NBD on
site warranty for a little less then the HP 2550 which people also
recommend.

That really is very much more printer than I need - I just don't do
that much printing - but it supports Linux and OS-X which are
requirements, and it's networked which is convenient (I could hang a
non networked printer off some box of course, but then there's a
dependency on more than just the printer).

So before I let Dell loose on my CC, do any of you have recommendations
for anything else in that functionality (the important functionality
areas are Linux and OS-X compatibility. I don't really need speed, and
networking is a luxury, though a nice one) and price range (Base price
of the 3100cn is 416 incl. VAT an del.)? The big disadvantage of the
3100cn is exactly that - it's BIG. I'd be happy to find something
smaller to do the job.

Niall
