In the below points "funky non-standard headers" can refer to "Mail
Followup To" headers which you seem to populate. Although a broken
Reply-To has already been noted to be the cause of the initial problem
here.

Of course - your aims are achievable using the "References" headers with
a simple regexp in your procmail scripts ... which would save all the
problems !
