as someone new to debian i keep finding new little bits - some annoying,
some not. thanks to the wonderous #linux on irc.linux.ie however, i
found a neat thing to fix an annoying thing.
debian uses /usr/bin/nano as its default editor. yeech.
happily debian also allows systems to easily have different defaults.
once you have all the s/w you want installed on a system, a nice thing
to do is run this command as root:
update-alternatives --all
it will then run through and allow you to choose the default application
for various parts of the system. it lets you pick your default editor,
text web browser, pager and so on.
