[ILUG] mta for a laptop?

can anyone recommend a simple mta for a laptop?  something that just
forwards the mail to a smarthost with some sort of smtp-auth
authentication?

apt lists a package called "nullmailer" that seems to provide this
functionality.  but i'm wondering if people have experience with any
alternatives.
