Hey,
It might be worth trying a few LiveCD (runs off a CD) distro's designed
for music editing. This way you can try out different packages and see
what you need!

Gareth, would it be possible for you to write up a list of what you use
for different sound related tasks?
I have a few friends who do sound production and would like to show them
some Open Solutions if possible.
