Hi Folks,
I'm new to this list and newish to Linux so I hope someone can shed a
bit of light on thsi problem I have at the moment. We've got a linux
box running AS 2.1 here and we need to install an application on it.
The kernel version of the AS box is 2.4.9-e.3smp. This app requires
kernel 2.4.9-e.25smp (long story that's tied into a customised setup).
I've installed the kernel along with its sourcecode becasue the
server has an HP SmartArray 6i controller built in and I want to
install the driver for that and set it up in the initrd.
The problem I have is that I've not had much luck (after much reading)
with getting the new kernel version installed and using the correct
SmartArray module. I tried just compiling the kernel with the
supplied SmartArray 5xxxx support turned on as a module and the
startup just resulted in a kernel panic. All my install work so far
has been on IDE based machines so I'm wondering what needs to be
diffferent this time.
Hope someone can point me in the right direction!
Thanks,
PC
