Yes, I've started to write a replacement for that page a couple of times
... never managed to come very close to having a useful page finished to
replace it with yet.

That's not quite accurate. I succeeded in getting in touch with him and
he gave me the near perfect reply which I'll paraphrase as "I gave my
work to the community and have no problem seeing it updated/improved".
Near perfect as the perfect answer would of course have been "I've just
updated it" :-P
So if anyone can write a new/better version of that page I for one would
really welcome it.
There's no way the existing content is going to be removed, as others
have pointed out there is some great stuff there. I'd welcome any
content that stands up to the general quality of prior submissions to
the ilug site and rethank their authors for their work.
