Re the disk-transfer limit comment, some buses have other limits.
E.g. SCSI commands are transferred async (slow) and becomes a
limiting factor according to benchmarks I've seen on parallel SCSI.
(E.g if you try attach more distinct spindles to try use more of the
SCSI bus bandwidth, you just run into a wall due to proportionally
more time being spent on async commands).
