I strongly advise you to download a knoppix live cd and explore
They can be found on heanet.  Recent/current version is here:
ftp://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/knoppix/KNOPPIX_V4.0.2CD-2005-09-23-EN.iso
NOTE: this will run from the CD - you do not need to install anything
to your disk.
