same here (with the caveat I am not 100% certain my on-board
sound card is VIA, but I _think_ it is). whilst I have had
sound problems, the cause has never lead to the soundcard or
the SuSE/SUSE handling of it. FWIW, using YaST/YaST2 to do
the configuration always been sufficient (AFAICR).
