Eh ? .. SMTP auth and Dialup is if you as a client terminate mail for
relaying.

This setup. which Colm has done is on the other end: receiving mail from
SMTP servers for termination on the linux.ie server (and then forwarding
to recipients of the linux.ie mailinglists etc.). Has nothing to do with
dialup and SMTP-AUTH is absolutely of no use there. TLS can be used, but
not for authentification purposes, because this setup is as receiving
endpoint for linux.ie mails, before it hits accounts, forwards etc.

Besides, if you checked Colm's mail, Linux.ie is running postfix, not
sendmail and even on sendmail it's no problem to get TLS, SMTP-AUTH or
alike to work. It's just a lot work.
