Hi,
I've been trying to figure out for the last few days how to use dig to
see if a nameserver was authorative for a domain. I know nslookup can
tell me, so i was reasonably sure dig could too. Anyway, here's how:
dig +norecurse -t ns domain.tld @nameserver
In the header at the top of the dig output, check the flags line. The
'aa' flags means 'authorative answer'. So, this answer:
;; flags: qr ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 1, AUTHORITY: 3, ADDITIONAL: 3
is not authorative, while this:
;; flags: qr aa rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 1, AUTHORITY: 3, ADDITIONAL: 5
is authorative. Anyway, thought this might be useful to some folk.
