I've had this problem too. I've tried using the firefox executable (with and
without various arguments), as well as various scripts on the net that claim
to launch it for you. I also posted to the kde mailing list. Nothing worked
properly.
Either one instance of firefox would launch, but no more, or a new page would
replace another one I had up, instead of using a new windows/tab.
I gave up in the end.
