people have been running eclipse on RH9 and FC3 here, no probs.
You need to install java of course.

An interesting aside is that there is a 100% opensource
version of eclipse now in rawhide:

Changing boot parameters using GRUB

At the grub boot menu press "e" and edit the boot parameters
For example append "single" to boot in single user mode.
Then boot the entry using "b" [boot]
